I am a male and went I went to A1 Salon to get a hair cut. Normally, I go to Cost Cutters or Sports Clips, but wanted to give this place a shot after eating at the Jersey Mike’s in the strip center. I went in and there was no wait. There is a Middle Eastern guy, named Jamal, who you can tell loves what he is doing and is very good at it. He says that he has been cutting hair for nearly 30 years now.
Because it was my first visit to the salon and the day was slower for him than expected, he also trimmed my beard and shaved my neck/face (other than the beard itself). I was blown away. At first, I was hesitant to let someone use a straight razor on my neck or face, but after seeing the results and how clean he made me look, I’m hooked. My beard looked great, the lines were incredible and my hair cut was fantastic.
Lastly, before leaving, Jamal styled my hair. While I don’t typically style my hair (other than dry it with a towel and comb it with a brush afterwards), Jamal made my hair look great. My wife loved it and I looked great for the big meeting that I was attending later that evening. I will definitely be going back to get my hair done in the future. Depending on the price, I will also go back from time to time and have Jamal shave my neck/beard. He explained that he is a licensed barber and has done this for many years. I don’t normally take a lot of time with my hair and it shows! I tried A1 Salon and was literally blown away. Jamal Mourad colored, highlighted and cut/styled my hair. Several times the next day my co-workers literally did not know who I was. I truly never knew the power of the correct hair cut, add the emphasis of the right color and proper highlights. I was overwhelmed. The cut is easy for me to maintain, and I’m still getting comments as to the color! I have found the hair salon for me! Come in and give him a try. I did not even tell him what I wanted, I trusted him to give me a good haircut that would make me look good and he delivered. I was very unsure of this place at first because of all the good reviews. So many are from out of state and others, I just assumed were probably friends, family, etc. writing good reviews. I totally took a leep of faith, was desperate for a haircut and was willing to go where ever (plus, the Mitchel’s Salon across the stree was closed). It was pretty slow and I thought, “Oh no. Why is no one here?” Jamal came from the back talking about how he was a designer and how he’d take care of me. Then when I tried to tell him what I wanted he told me not to worry, that he was the designer and he would make my hair look great. Once again, I begin to freak out a little. After an hour I left with AMAZING hair! I was actually a little bummed that I didn’t have anywhere to go.
If I had brought in a picture it would have been exactly how he did my hair. I just mentioned that I usually curled it and he had me walking out like I would want to leave my house, but better! (I hate it when I go somewhere and it looks nothing like how I would normally wear it and I feel weird all day.) The only thing is that he didn’t tell me the curls were an extra $20 until after he was done and rung me up. The shampoo, cut, style/curl ended up being $80, which I feel is a little steep for him not to have given me a heads up, but he did say if I didn’t have it curled the next time it would be $60. The cut is beautiful and I’ll be going back from now on! – Elizabeth Hunter

Jamal has The Gift of superb haircut sold at a reasonable price. The man is a genius, way over experienced to the task. He charges half price for first visit knowing you’re absolutely coming back. I’m a guy and don’t care about products or treatments. I just look for the simple best haircut but It’s not easy to find. He told me the pictures on the website are all his own work on women hair. So girls see by yourselves. Jamal is relatively new in Cary and I’d like him to succeed and stay in town by his excellence. – Jay H

I’ve been to Jamal’s new salon here in Cary about 15 times now, and I wish I met him ten years ago. I’ve been here in Cary for about 20 years, and this is by far the best value I’ve EVER got for my haircut money. Never had an inconsistent cut or had to change to a new stylists like most of the men’s haircut places in town. The owner, Jamal, is truly a perfectionist at his craft. You can tell by his concentration and attention to detail that he’s got a gift, enjoys it, and treats every person like his livelihood and business depends on it. Side note for men, Jamal is the only licensed straight razor hand in town that I’ve ever seen. If you have never had a shave from a barber you are missing out. My beard looks impeccable everytime I go in. Seriously, if you run across this link and review, or pass by his place on preston corners – DO YOURSELF A FAVOR and try him once. A1 Salon is the most amazing! I have been going to Jamal (the owner) for years here and Michigan and I can not find a hair stylist that is any where near as good as him!! He moved to North Carolina and I will be making a special visit just for my hair cuts and coloring. One of the best places I have been to.
